Work is something we do, not somewhere we go.

Home Office concept

Although remote (or flexible) working has previously been driven by employees seeking a better work/life balance, it has also been heavily backed by business leaders looking to create the next generation of attractive and flexible companies where everybody doesn’t need to be in the same room to work together. But today we face the reality of this being a default approach to work, but now under the guise of Business Continuity.

Work is something we do, not somewhere we go” has been used by marketing departments to align technology to the demands of modern businesses and new work practices, but putting aside business initiatives – technology issues have formed some barriers where organisations need to address the issues of distributed management and information security whilst also ensuring a positive user experience.

Whilst the provision of laptop and mobile devices may provide the immediate flexibility for remote working, they do come with complexities for the IT teams for device management and maintaining frequent updates, as well as potential vulnerabilities in information protection and securing the endpoint. Furthermore, modern cloud based applications have been designed to ensure a positive user experience from “any” location, but typical organisations still rely on traditional on-premise applications that may not be optimised for access over latent virtual private network (VPN) connections.

So, to combat these complexities and subsequent costs, does this mean the corporate desktop and critical business data is better located in the data centre? Since more resources are coming from the cloud or data centres, this innovation must also extend to the desktop.

The key element is the right combination of management platform and a suitable operating system to accommodate a variety of endpoint devices and Intelligere is working with it’s partners to meet these demands, including solutions to provide new solutions for user support, optimising environments for remote working and managing new requirements for change management, and naturally alongside this new solutions for secure endpoint management and data security.
